Trained by some of Hawai'i's elite music icons at an early age, Jesse Ku'ikahi was groomed to be one of the best. Born into the Bright family on his mother's side, he was vocally trained by one of Hawaii's favorite jazz singers, Theresa Bright. His uncle Ron Bright's theater is where Jesse got used to the stage, performing in various theatrical productions.
Jesse Ku'ikahi began to perform in musical groups during his first years of attendance at Kamehameha schools. While at Kamehameha, Jesse eventually became a part of a band called Smooth Remedy with some of his closest friends. It was with Smooth Remedy that Jesse began to develop his own unique style and taste for music.
Jesse's musical style is placed somewhere between his favorite musical influences, John Legend, and John Mayer. Soul & R&b, Jazz & Pop, Classic Rock & Folk are some of the boxes that he may fit into, although the style remains his own. Jesse's palette is geared towards the vintage greats, with inflections from the modern age of music.
An audience member recently said " I've been a music connoisseur for a long long time; My best friend, having produced three records of his own, always came to me with his new music first. That being said, there is something about the Hawaiian male voice that is unparalleled, and you sir are among the best."
Another attendant said " Very nice to meet you! Very talented! I can't get your performance out of my head, and that never happens. You are going to go so far, way to follow your dreams!"
Whether performing in large stadiums with thousands in attendance, or at a back yard event, his voice calls forth the meaning of his name. "Ku'ikahi" - to string together as one.
